Salem Puppeteers will present the humorous but true story of how the beloved Christmas Carol, "Silent Night", was written for Grand Victorian Residents Thurs. Dec. 15th at 7 p.m. and for Salem's 2012 Epiphany Breakfast Sunday, January 8th, 9:15 a.m. All are welcome!

All Salem voices are invited to join together to prepare this lovely, inspiring Christmas Cantata for the 3^rd weekend of Advent accompanied by a Celtic Consort of Cello, Flute, Percussion, Piano, and Violin.  Salem Children’s choirs will be featured in the piece A Celtic Gloria!  with additional music by Sounds of Grace Bells.   November and December rehearsal opportunities include the five Wednesday and four Sunday evenings listed below.   Please contact Carla Vanatta to receive a score and rehearsal CD.

A word from the composer….

The music of Christmas is a treasure for both the ear and the heart.  Each winter it covers our lives with a hopeful blanket of sound and reminds us that even in the silence of winter, there is song.  Each tradition offers its own rich vocabulary of holiday carols joining together faith and art into a glorious fabric of melody and truth.  From angelic acclamations to delicate lullabies, the message of God’s love leaps from the pages of our songbooks and finds a home in the tender places of our hearts.

Tapestry of Light is a joining of traditional carols, primarily from the British Isles, with scripture reading and candle lighting.  I was inspired by recent trips to Ireland, Scotland, Wales, and England to create a work that celebrates the rich heritage of seasonal song that is part of this great tradition.   

Through the singing and sharing of this work, may the grace that inspired these time-honored tunes surround and inspire you.  As you light the candles and raise your voices, may the joy and peace of Christ fill you and shine through you.  May the Father of all lights gather us all to His heart and weave us into a wonderful tapestry of Light.

Get ready for Salem's Spring 2011 Children's Musical…   That's So DANIEL!   Salem Kids from Kindergarten through High School are invited to bring the Bible to life in a fresh and vibrant way with That's So Daniel! A musical about Making Good Choices!   While home from school pretending to be sick, a young boy, Daniel, with a reputation for stretching the truth is surprised to learn that his babysitter for the day is to be his grandfather. Suspicious of the validity of the young boy's "illness," the grandfather shares stories about the Daniel in the Bible. These life-changing lessons about honesty, obedience, and worshiping only the One true living God come to life as the cast recounts the biblical tale of Daniel and his encounter with King Nebuchadnezzar, a lion's den, and a fiery furnace.     Everyone is welcome to join the fun! Rehab presentation to be arranged   Putting together a musical drama is a lot of work and a lot of fun!  Kids learn their parts by listening to the CD, rehearsing choreography to each song, and practicing their lines.
