Summer Choir

Salem Summer Choir is a fun and easy way to share your gift of song. Singers meet for a half-hour to learn a simple piece to share in 10:30 worship that day. All ages and voices are welcome! Summer Choir will rehearse from 9:45-10:15 a.m. In the Choir Room these Sundays: June 10, July 1 & 29, August 12, September 2 Blessing of Daily Labor. Come whenever you can! Your voice will be a gift to God and our congregation.

All Children and youth are invited to participate in Salem's Spring Musical,
Spend Awhile in the Nile, to be presented for Sat/Sun April 21st and 22nd
worship services.

Musicals have speaking parts and solos in addition to whole group songs, and
most songs are choreographed with motions, dance movements, or deaf-signing.

This year's musical has a part for an older youth or adult male as well as
roles for children.

"Silent Mice, Holy Mice" Puppet Presentation

Salem Puppeteers will present the humorous but true story of how the beloved Christmas Carol, "Silent Night", was written for Grand Victorian Residents Thurs. Dec. 15th at 7 p.m. and for Salem's 2012 Epiphany Breakfast Sunday, January 8th, 9:15 a.m. All are welcome!

All Salem voices are invited to join together to prepare this lovely, inspiring Christmas Cantata for the 3^rd weekend of Advent accompanied by a Celtic Consort of Cello, Flute, Percussion, Piano, and Violin.  Salem Children’s choirs will be featured in the piece A Celtic Gloria!  with additional music by Sounds of Grace Bells.   November and December rehearsal opportunities include the five Wednesday and four Sunday evenings listed below.   Please contact Carla Vanatta to receive a score and rehearsal CD.

A word from the composer….

The music of Christmas is a treasure for both the ear and the heart.  Each winter it covers our lives with a hopeful blanket of sound and reminds us that even in the silence of winter, there is song.  Each tradition offers its own rich vocabulary of holiday carols joining together faith and art into a glorious fabric of melody and truth.  From angelic acclamations to delicate lullabies, the message of God’s love leaps from the pages of our songbooks and finds a home in the tender places of our hearts.

Tapestry of Light is a joining of traditional carols, primarily from the British Isles, with scripture reading and candle lighting.  I was inspired by recent trips to Ireland, Scotland, Wales, and England to create a work that celebrates the rich heritage of seasonal song that is part of this great tradition.   

Through the singing and sharing of this work, may the grace that inspired these time-honored tunes surround and inspire you.  As you light the candles and raise your voices, may the joy and peace of Christ fill you and shine through you.  May the Father of all lights gather us all to His heart and weave us into a wonderful tapestry of Light.
